They hold fast to their evil purpose; they talk of laying snares secretly, thinking, “Who can see us?


If they say, “Come with us, let us lie in wait for blood; let us wantonly ambush the innocent;


The villainies of villains are evil; they devise wicked devices to ruin the poor with lying words, even when the plea of the needy is right.


Shout out, do not hold back! Lift up your voice like a trumpet! Announce to my people their rebellion, to the house of Jacob their sins.


Is evil a recompense for good? Yet they have dug a pit for my life. Remember how I stood before you to speak good for them, to turn away your wrath from them.


May a cry be heard from their houses, when you bring the marauder suddenly upon them! For they have dug a pit to catch me, and laid snares for my feet.


“For my people are foolish, they do not know me; they are stupid children, they have no understanding. They are skilled in doing evil, but do not know how to do good.”


Their tongue is a deadly arrow; it speaks deceit through the mouth. They all speak friendly words to their neighbors, but inwardly are planning to lay an ambush.


Can I forget the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is accursed?


The faithful have disappeared from the land, and there is no one left who is upright; they all lie in wait for blood, and they hunt each other with nets.


and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching people.”
