(for they are your people and heritage, which you brought out of Egypt, from the midst of the iron-smelter).


But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I shall come out like gold.


“Surely there is a mine for silver, and a place for gold to be refined.


For you, O God, have tested us; you have tried us as silver is tried.


The crucible is for silver, and the furnace is for gold, but the Lord tests the heart.


Therefore by this the guilt of Jacob will be expiated, and this will be the full fruit of the removal of his sin: when he makes all the stones of the altars like chalkstones crushed to pieces, no sacred poles or incense altars will remain standing.


which I commanded your ancestors when I brought them out of the land of Egypt, from the iron-smelter, saying, Listen to my voice, and do all that I command you. So shall you be my people, and I will be your God,


Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts: I will now refine and test them, for what else can I do with my sinful people?


I will purge out the rebels among you, and those who transgress against me; I will bring them out of the land where they reside as aliens, but they shall not enter the land of Israel. Then you shall know that I am the Lord.


But the Lord has taken you and brought you out of the iron-smelter, out of Egypt, to become a people of his very own possession, as you are now.


so that the genuineness of your faith—being more precious than gold that, though perishable, is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.


Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that is taking place among you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.


I reprove and discipline those whom I love. Be earnest, therefore, and repent.
