But when they went to bury her, they found no more of her than the skull and the feet and the palms of her hands.


Their roots dry up beneath, and their branches wither above.


Their memory perishes from the earth, and they have no name in the street.


They have no offspring or descendant among their people, and no survivor where they used to live.


May his posterity be cut off; may his name be blotted out in the second generation.


You will destroy their offspring from the earth, and their children from among humankind.


For the Lord loves justice; he will not forsake his faithful ones. The righteous shall be kept safe forever, but the children of the wicked shall be cut off.


A man may beget a hundred children, and live many years; but however many are the days of his years, if he does not enjoy life's good things, or has no burial, I say that a stillborn child is better off than he.


Ah, sinful nation, people laden with iniquity, offspring who do evil, children who deal corruptly, who have forsaken the Lord, who have despised the Holy One of Israel, who are utterly estranged!


Yet he too is wise and brings disaster; he does not call back his words, but will rise against the house of the evildoers, and against the helpers of those who work iniquity.


That is why the Lord did not have pity on their young people, or compassion on their orphans and widows; for everyone was godless and an evildoer, and every mouth spoke folly. For all this his anger has not turned away, his hand is stretched out still.
