God said, “No, but your wife Sarah shall bear you a son, and you shall name him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him.


But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this season next year.”


Abraham said, “I did it because I thought, There is no fear of God at all in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife.


Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to kill his son.


These are the descendants of Isaac, Abraham's son: Abraham was the father of Isaac,


But to the sons of his concubines Abraham gave gifts, while he was still living, and he sent them away from his son Isaac, eastward to the east country.


Drive out a scoffer, and strife goes out; quarreling and abuse will cease.


Then the king said to the attendants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’


The slave does not have a permanent place in the household; the son has a place there forever.


For if the inheritance comes from the law, it no longer comes from the promise; but God granted it to Abraham through the promise.


So you are no longer a slave but a child, and if a child then also an heir, through God.


and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you,


They went out from us, but they did not belong to us; for if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us. But by going out they made it plain that none of them belongs to us.


Gilead's wife also bore him sons; and when his wife's sons grew up, they drove Jephthah away, saying to him, “You shall not inherit anything in our father's house; for you are the son of another woman.”
