Those who make them are like them; so are all who trust in them.


The strong shall become like tinder, and their work like a spark; they and their work shall burn together, with no one to quench them.


The idols shall utterly pass away.


On that day people will throw away to the moles and to the bats their idols of silver and their idols of gold, which they made for themselves to worship,


Therefore by this the guilt of Jacob will be expiated, and this will be the full fruit of the removal of his sin: when he makes all the stones of the altars like chalkstones crushed to pieces, no sacred poles or incense altars will remain standing.


Then I said, “How long, O Lord?” And he said: “Until cities lie waste without inhabitant, and houses without people, and the land is utterly desolate;


Your holy cities have become a wilderness, Zion has become a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.

Your altars shall become desolate, and your incense stands shall be broken; and I will throw down your slain in front of your idols.


The slain shall fall in your midst; then you shall know that I am the Lord.


Their heart is false; now they must bear their guilt. The Lord will break down their altars, and destroy their pillars.


The high places of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed. Thorn and thistle shall grow up on their altars. They shall say to the mountains, Cover us, and to the hills, Fall on us.


I will destroy your high places and cut down your incense altars; I will heap your carcasses on the carcasses of your idols. I will abhor you.


I will lay your cities waste, will make your sanctuaries desolate, and I will not smell your pleasing odors.

What use is an idol once its maker has shaped it— a cast image, a teacher of lies? For its maker trusts in what has been made, though the product is only an idol that cannot speak!


Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to save them on the day of the Lord's wrath; in the fire of his passion the whole earth shall be consumed; for a full, a terrible end he will make of all the inhabitants of the earth.


On that day, says the Lord of hosts, I will cut off the names of the idols from the land, so that they shall be remembered no more; and also I will remove from the land the prophets and the unclean spirit.
