Then the king's servants who were at the king's gate said to Mordecai, “Why do you disobey the king's command?”


When Haman saw that Mordecai did not bow down or do obeisance to him, Haman was infuriated.


There are certain Jews whom you have appointed over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These pay no heed to you, O King. They do not serve your gods and they do not worship the golden statue that you have set up.”


Then they responded to the king, “Daniel, one of the exiles from Judah, pays no attention to you, O king, or to the interdict you have signed, but he is saying his prayers three times a day.”


“I am a Hebrew,” he replied. “I worship the Lord, the God of heaven, who made the sea and the dry land.”
