On that night the king could not sleep, and he gave orders to bring the book of records, the annals, and they were read to the king.


The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah, in the fourth year of King Jehoiakim son of Josiah of Judah (that was the first year of King Nebuchadrezzar of Babylon),


he said to them, “I have had such a dream that my spirit is troubled by the desire to understand it.”


The signs and wonders that the Most High God has worked for me I am pleased to recount.


I saw a dream that frightened me; my fantasies in bed and the visions of my head terrified me.


Then King Belshazzar became greatly terrified and his face turned pale, and his lords were perplexed.


Then the king went to his palace and spent the night fasting; no food was brought to him, and sleep fled from him.


In the first year of King Belshazzar of Babylon, Daniel had a dream and visions of his head as he lay in bed. Then he wrote down the dream:


As for me, Daniel, my spirit was troubled within me, and the visions of my head terrified me.
