When his master heard the words that his wife spoke to him, saying, “This is the way your servant treated me,” he became enraged.


He loved to curse; let curses come on him. He did not like blessing; may it be far from him.


He feeds on ashes; a deluded mind has led him astray, and he cannot save himself or say, “Is not this thing in my right hand a fraud?”


I also will choose to mock them, and bring upon them what they fear; because, when I called, no one answered, when I spoke, they did not listen; but they did what was evil in my sight, and chose what did not please me.


For they are prophesying a lie to you, with the result that you will be removed far from your land; I will drive you out, and you will perish.


Then I said, “Ah, Lord God, how utterly you have deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, ‘It shall be well with you,’ even while the sword is at the throat!”


If a prophet is deceived and speaks a word, I, the Lord, have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand against him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.


Offering false visions for you, divining lies for you, they place you over the necks of the vile, wicked ones— those whose day has come, the time of final punishment.


And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray.


For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Messiah!’ and they will lead many astray.


And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind and to things that should not be done.


For our appeal does not spring from deceit or impure motives or trickery,


Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will renounce the faith by paying attention to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons,


and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander away to myths.
