Laziness brings on deep sleep; an idle person will suffer hunger.


As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the lure of wealth choke the word, and it yields nothing.


When he went out about nine o'clock, he saw others standing idle in the marketplace;


And about five o'clock he went out and found others standing around; and he said to them, ‘Why are you standing here idle all day?’


But his master replied, ‘You wicked and lazy slave! You knew, did you, that I reap where I did not sow, and gather where I did not scatter?


He removes every branch in me that bears no fruit. Every branch that bears fruit he prunes to make it bear more fruit.


And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.


But I know that you do not have the love of God in you.


Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord.


Therefore, my beloved, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord, because you know that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.


Examine yourselves to see whether you are living in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not realize that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless, indeed, you fail to meet the test!


for during a severe ordeal of affliction, their abundant joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part.


Now as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in utmost eagerness, and in our love for you —so we want you to excel also in this generous undertaking.


while they long for you and pray for you because of the surpassing grace of God that he has given you.


And this is my prayer, that your love may overflow more and more with knowledge and full insight


Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus,


More than that, I regard everything as loss because of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things, and I regard them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ


so that you may lead lives worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, as you bear fruit in every good work and as you grow in the knowledge of God.


rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.


Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God.


And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, just as we abound in love for you.


Finally, brothers and sisters, we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus that, as you learned from us how you ought to live and to please God (as, in fact, you are doing), you should do so more and more.


We must always give thanks to God for you, brothers and sisters, as is right, because your faith is growing abundantly, and the love of everyone of you for one another is increasing.


Besides that, they learn to be idle, gadding about from house to house; and they are not merely idle, but also gossips and busybodies, saying what they should not say.


And let people learn to devote themselves to good works in order to meet urgent needs, so that they may not be unproductive.


I pray that the sharing of your faith may become effective when you perceive all the good that we may do for Christ.


so that you may not become sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.


May grace and peace be yours in abundance in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.


His divine power has given us everything needed for life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.


For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overpowered, the last state has become worse for them than the first.


But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
