Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep, and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.


And he that received the seed among thorns, is he that heareth the word, and the care of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choketh up the word, and he becometh fruitless.


And going about the third hour, he saw others standing in the market place idle.


But about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing, and he saith to them: Why stand you here all the day idle?


And his lord answering, said to him: Wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sow not, and gather where I have not strewed:


Every branch in me, that beareth not fruit, he will take away: and every one that beareth fruit, he will purge it, that it may bring forth more fruit.


Now this is eternal life: That they may know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.


But I know you, that you have not the love of God in you.


In carefulness not slothful. In spirit fervent. Serving the Lord.


Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast and unmoveable; always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.


Try your own selves if you be in the faith; prove ye yourselves. Know you not your own selves, that Christ Jesus is in you, unless perhaps you be reprobates?


That in much experience of tribulation, they have had abundance of joy; and their very deep poverty hath abounded unto the riches of their simplicity.


That as in all things you abound in faith, and word, and knowledge, and all carefulness; moreover also in your charity towards us, so in this grace also you may abound.


And in their praying for you, being desirous of you, because of the excellent grace of God in you.


And this I pray, that your charity may more and more abound in knowledge, and in all understanding:


For let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:


Furthermore I count all things to be but loss for the excellent knowledge of Jesus Christ my Lord; for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but as dung, that I may gain Christ:


That you may walk worthy of God, in all things pleasing; being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God:


Rooted and built up in him, and confirmed in the faith, as also you have learned, abounding in him in thanksgiving.


Let the word of Christ dwell in you abundantly, in all wisdom: teaching and admonishing one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual canticles, singing in grace in your hearts to God.


And may the Lord multiply you, and make you abound in charity towards one another, and towards all men: as we do also towards you,


For the rest therefore, brethren, we pray and beseech you in the Lord Jesus, that as you have received from us, how you ought to walk, and to please God, so also you would walk, that you may abound the more.


We are bound to give thanks always to God for you, brethren, as it is fitting, because your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you towards each other, aboundeth:


And withal being idle they learn to go about from house to house: and are not only idle, but tattlers also, and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.


And let our men also learn to excel in good works for necessary uses: that they be not unfruitful.


That the communication of thy faith may be made evident in the acknowledgment of every good work, that is in you in Christ Jesus.


That you become not slothful, but followers of them, who through faith and patience shall inherit the promises.


Grace to you and peace be accomplished in the knowledge of God and of Christ Jesus our Lord:


As all things of his divine power which appertain to life and godliness, are given us, through the knowledge of him who hath called us by his own proper glory and virtue.


For if, flying from the pollutions of the world, through the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they be again entangled in them and overcome: their latter state is become unto them worse than the former.


But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and unto the day of eternity. Amen.
