A sluggard’s appetite is never filled, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied.


Wisdom’s instruction is to fear the Lord, and humility comes before honour.


The poor plead for mercy, but the rich answer harshly.


Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank.


Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.


‘Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.


Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervour, serving the Lord.


Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.


Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.


And Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, ‘Let me go to the fields and pick up the leftover grain behind anyone in whose eyes I find favour.’ Naomi said to her, ‘Go ahead, my daughter.’


Then Ruth the Moabite said, ‘He even said to me, “Stay with my workers until they finish harvesting all my grain.” ’

So Boaz said to Ruth, ‘My daughter, listen to me. Don’t go and glean in another field and don’t go away from here. Stay here with the women who work for me.
