‘Go and enquire of the Lord for me and for the people and for all Judah about what is written in this book that has been found. Great is the Lord’s anger that burns against us because those who have gone before us have not obeyed the words of this book; they have not acted in accordance with all that is written there concerning us.’


For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods.


Tremble before him, all the earth! The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved.


Then I said: ‘Lord, the God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments,


‘Dominion and awe belong to God; he establishes order in the heights of heaven.


He says, ‘Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.’


And the Lord said to Moses, ‘Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow. Make them wash their clothes


But the Lord is the true God; he is the living God, the eternal King. When he is angry, the earth trembles; the nations cannot endure his wrath.


‘Like a lion coming up from Jordan’s thickets to a rich pasture-land, I will chase Edom from its land in an instant. Who is the chosen one I will appoint for this? Who is like me and who can challenge me? And what shepherd can stand against me?’


Who can withstand his indignation? Who can endure his fierce anger? His wrath is poured out like fire; the rocks are shattered before him.


The Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth be silent before him.


Be still before the Lord, all mankind, because he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.’


From the heavens the stars fought, from their courses they fought against Sisera.
