The God of Israel spoke, the Rock of Israel said to me: “When one rules over people in righteousness, when he rules in the fear of God,


Praise be to the Lord your God, who has delighted in you and placed you on the throne of Israel. Because of the Lord’s eternal love for Israel, he has made you king to maintain justice and righteousness.’


When all Israel heard the verdict the king had given, they held the king in awe, because they saw that he had wisdom from God to administer justice.


And give my son Solomon the wholehearted devotion to keep your commands, statutes and decrees and to do everything to build the palatial structure for which I have provided.’


who shows no partiality to princes and does not favour the rich over the poor, for they are all the work of his hands?


‘Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan, I will now arise,’ says the Lord. ‘I will protect them from those who malign them.’


If a king judges the poor with fairness, his throne will be established for ever.


See, a king will reign in righteousness and rulers will rule with justice.


The fruit of that righteousness will be peace; its effect will be quietness and confidence for ever.


Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and for ever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.


‘ “In those days and at that time I will make a righteous Branch sprout from David’s line; he will do what is just and right in the land.


I will search for the lost and bring back the strays. I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak, but the sleek and the strong I will destroy. I will shepherd the flock with justice.


I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war.
