an inheritance to his servant Israel. His love endures for ever.


I say of the holy people who are in the land, ‘They are the noble ones in whom is all my delight.’


‘Although you have been forsaken and hated, with no-one travelling through, I will make you the everlasting pride and the joy of all generations.


‘I myself said, ‘ “How gladly would I treat you like my children and give you a pleasant land, the most beautiful inheritance of any nation.” I thought you would call me “Father” and not turn away from following me.


On that day I swore to them that I would bring them out of Egypt into a land I had searched out for them, a land flowing with milk and honey, the most beautiful of all lands.


‘I will heal their waywardness and love them freely, for my anger has turned away from them.


The Sovereign Lord has sworn by himself – the Lord God Almighty declares: ‘I abhor the pride of Jacob and detest his fortresses; I will deliver up the city and everything in it.’


The Lord has sworn by himself, the Pride of Jacob: ‘I will never forget anything they have done.


The Lord will restore the splendour of Jacob like the splendour of Israel, though destroyers have laid them waste and have ruined their vines.


‘I have loved you,’ says the Lord. ‘But you ask, “How have you loved us?” ‘Was not Esau Jacob’s brother?’ declares the Lord. ‘Yet I have loved Jacob,


‘Then the King will say to those on his right, “Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.


I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,


It is a land the Lord your God cares for; the eyes of the Lord your God are continually on it from the beginning of the year to its end.


Surely it is you who love the people; all the holy ones are in your hand. At your feet they all bow down, and from you receive instruction,


and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you,
