He parted the heavens and came down; dark clouds were under his feet.


Our God comes and will not be silent; a fire devours before him, and around him a tempest rages.


Sing to God, sing in praise of his name, extol him who rides on the clouds; rejoice before him – his name is the Lord.


Fire goes before him and consumes his foes on every side.


Mount Sinai was covered with smoke, because the Lord descended on it in fire. The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace, and the whole mountain trembled violently.


Lift up your eyes to the heavens, look at the earth beneath; the heavens will vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment and its inhabitants die like flies. But my salvation will last for ever, my righteousness will never fail.


See, the Lord is coming with fire, and his chariots are like a whirlwind; he will bring down his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire.


The Lord will roar from Zion and thunder from Jerusalem; the earth and the heavens will tremble. But the Lord will be a refuge for his people, a stronghold for the people of Israel.


‘Immediately after the distress of those days ‘ “the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.”


At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon.


Jesus replied, ‘You do not realise now what I am doing, but later you will understand.’


‘There is no-one like the God of Jeshurun, who rides across the heavens to help you and on the clouds in his majesty.


At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, ‘Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.’


But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.


Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them.
