When you ascended on high, you took many captives; you received gifts from people, even from the rebellious – that you, Lord God, might dwell there.


‘Then let them make a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them.


Then I will dwell among the Israelites and be their God.


Shout aloud and sing for joy, people of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel among you.’


‘The person to be cleansed must wash their clothes, shave off all their hair and bathe with water; then they will be ceremonially clean. After this they may come into the camp, but they must stay outside their tent for seven days.


‘ “You must keep the Israelites separate from things that make them unclean, so they will not die in their uncleanness for defiling my dwelling-place, which is among them.” ’


They came as a group to oppose Moses and Aaron and said to them, ‘You have gone too far! The whole community is holy, every one of them, and the Lord is with them. Why then do you set yourselves above the Lord’s assembly?’


Anything that an unclean person touches becomes unclean, and anyone who touches it becomes unclean till evening.’


Do not defile the land where you live and where I dwell, for I, the Lord, dwell among the Israelites.” ’


The Israelites did so; they sent them outside the camp. They did just as the Lord had instructed Moses.


For the Lord your God moves about in your camp to protect you and to deliver your enemies to you. Your camp must be holy, so that he will not see among you anything indecent and turn away from you.


If a slave has taken refuge with you, do not hand them over to their master.


In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers and sisters, to keep away from every believer who is idle and disruptive and does not live according to the teaching you received from us.


Warn a divisive person once, and then warn them a second time. After that, have nothing to do with them.


Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.


And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Look! God’s dwelling-place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.
