They gave Moses this account: ‘We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit.


But the men who had gone up with him said, ‘We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.’


These are their names: from the tribe of Reuben, Shammua son of Zakkur;


They travelled from Mount Hor along the route to the Red Sea, to go round Edom. But the people grew impatient on the way;


Moses said to the Gadites and Reubenites, ‘Should your fellow Israelites go to war while you sit here?


After they went up to the Valley of Eshkol and viewed the land, they discouraged the Israelites from entering the land the Lord had given them.


Then Paul answered, ‘Why are you weeping and breaking my heart? I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.’


Where can we go? Our brothers have made our hearts melt in fear. They say, “The people are stronger and taller than we are; the cities are large, with walls up to the sky. We even saw the Anakites there.” ’
