Uriah said to David, ‘The ark and Israel and Judah are staying in tents, and my commander Joab and my lord’s men are camped in the open country. How could I go to my house to eat and drink and make love to my wife? As surely as you live, I will not do such a thing!’


If we have found favour in your eyes,’ they said, ‘let this land be given to your servants as our possession. Do not make us cross the Jordan.’


Why do you discourage the Israelites from crossing over into the land the Lord has given them?


It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.


not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.


Why did you stay among the sheepfolds to hear the whistling for the flocks? In the districts of Reuben there was much searching of heart.
