The Reubenites and Gadites, who had very large herds and flocks, saw that the lands of Jazer and Gilead were suitable for livestock.


‘Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo and Beon –


and divide it as an inheritance among the nine tribes and half of the tribe of Manasseh.’


So the Israelites allotted to the Levites these towns and their pasture-lands, as the Lord had commanded through Moses.


Why did you stay among the sheepfolds to hear the whistling for the flocks? In the districts of Reuben there was much searching of heart.
