Midday passed, and they continued their frantic prophesying until the time for the evening sacrifice. But there was no response, no-one answered, no-one paid attention.


At the time of sacrifice, the prophet Elijah stepped forward and prayed: ‘Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command.


to present burnt offerings to the Lord on the altar of burnt offering regularly, morning and evening, in accordance with everything written in the Law of the Lord, which he had given Israel.


May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.


Take care of them until the fourteenth day of the month, when all the members of the community of Israel must slaughter them at twilight.


while I was still in prayer, Gabriel, the man I had seen in the earlier vision, came to me in swift flight about the time of the evening sacrifice.

Say to them: “This is the food offering you are to present to the Lord: two lambs a year old without defect, as a regular burnt offering each day.


together with a grain offering of a tenth of an ephah of the finest flour mixed with a quarter of a hin of oil from pressed olives.


Celebrate it at the appointed time, at twilight on the fourteenth day of this month, in accordance with all its rules and regulations.’
