While Absalom was offering sacrifices, he also sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David’s counsellor, to come from Giloh, his home town. And so the conspiracy gained strength, and Absalom’s following kept on increasing.


‘ “If the offering is a burnt offering from the herd, you are to offer a male without defect. You must present it at the entrance to the tent of meeting so that it will be acceptable to the Lord.


Balak sacrificed cattle and sheep, and gave some to Balaam and the officials who were with him.


Balaam said, ‘Build me seven altars here, and prepare seven bulls and seven rams for me.’
