Numbers 18:9 - New International Version (Anglicised)

9 You are to have the part of the most holy offerings that is kept from the fire. From all the gifts they bring me as most holy offerings, whether grain or sin or guilt offerings, that part belongs to you and your sons.

About this time Hazael king of Aram went up and attacked Gath and captured it. Then he turned to attack Jerusalem.


‘As it is also written in the Law, we will bring the firstborn of our sons and of our cattle, of our herds and of our flocks to the house of our God, to the priests ministering there.


Then he said to me, ‘The north and south rooms facing the temple courtyard are the priests’ rooms, where the priests who approach the Lord will eat the most holy offerings. There they will put the most holy offerings – the grain offerings, the sin offerings and the guilt offerings – for the place is holy.


They will eat the grain offerings, the sin offerings and the guilt offerings; and everything in Israel devoted to the Lord will belong to them.


‘Why didn’t you eat the sin offering in the sanctuary area? It is most holy; it was given to you to take away the guilt of the community by making atonement for them before the Lord.


He is to slaughter the lamb in the sanctuary area where the sin offering and the burnt offering are slaughtered. Like the sin offering, the guilt offering belongs to the priest; it is most holy.


The rest of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and his sons; it is a most holy part of the food offerings presented to the Lord.


But if a priest buys a slave with money, or if slaves are born in his household, they may eat his food.


When the sun goes down, he will be clean, and after that he may eat the sacred offerings, for they are his food.


‘ “When a leader sins unintentionally and does what is forbidden in any of the commands of the Lord his God, when he realises his guilt


‘ “If any member of the community sins unintentionally and does what is forbidden in any of the Lord’s commands, when they realise their guilt


‘ “If anyone sins because they do not speak up when they hear a public charge to testify regarding something they have seen or learned about, they will be held responsible.


As a penalty for the sin they have committed, they must bring to the Lord a female lamb or goat from the flock as a sin offering; and the priest shall make atonement for them for their sin.


It must not be baked with yeast; I have given it as their share of the food offerings presented to me. Like the sin offering and the guilt offering, it is most holy.


But any sin offering whose blood is brought into the tent of meeting to make atonement in the Holy Place must not be eaten; it must be burned.


‘ “These are the regulations for the guilt offering, which is most holy:


Any male in a priest’s family may eat it, but it must be eaten in the sanctuary area; it is most holy.


‘ “The same law applies to both the sin offering and the guilt offering: they belong to the priest who makes atonement with them.


Eat it as something most holy; every male shall eat it. You must regard it as holy.


The Levitical priests – indeed, the whole tribe of Levi – are to have no land allotted to them or any inheritance with Israel. They shall live on the food offerings presented to the Lord, for that is their inheritance.
