The sceptre will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs shall come and the obedience of the nations shall be his.


And they distributed to the priests enrolled by their families in the genealogical records and likewise to the Levites twenty years old or more, according to their responsibilities and their divisions.


The Lord will extend your mighty sceptre from Zion, saying, ‘Rule in the midst of your enemies!’


The sceptre of the wicked will not remain over the land allotted to the righteous, for then the righteous might use their hands to do evil.


Then use it to anoint the tent of meeting, the ark of the covenant law,


But take this staff in your hand so that you can perform the signs with it.’


Then the Lord said to him, ‘What is that in your hand?’ ‘A staff,’ he replied.


Fire spread from one of its main branches and consumed its fruit. No strong branch is left on it fit for a ruler’s sceptre.” This is a lament and is to be used as a lament.’
