He sent Moses his servant, and Aaron, whom he had chosen.


House of Aaron, trust in the Lord – he is their help and shield.


Blessed are those you choose and bring near to live in your courts! We are filled with the good things of your house, of your holy temple.


‘Let Aaron your brother be brought to you from among the Israelites, with his sons Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, so that they may serve me as priests.


After you put these clothes on your brother Aaron and his sons, anoint and ordain them. Consecrate them so they may serve me as priests.


Aaron and his sons must wear them whenever they enter the tent of meeting or approach the altar to minister in the Holy Place, so that they will not incur guilt and die. ‘This is to be a lasting ordinance for Aaron and his descendants.


Their leader will be one of their own; their ruler will arise from among them. I will bring him near and he will come close to me – for who is he who will devote himself to be close to me?” declares the Lord.


‘Like a lion coming up from Jordan’s thickets to a rich pasture-land, I will chase Edom from its land in an instant. Who is the chosen one I will appoint for this? Who is like me and who can challenge me? And what shepherd can stand against me?’

and the room facing north is for the priests who guard the altar. These are the sons of Zadok, who are the only Levites who may draw near to the Lord to minister before him.’


you are to give a young bull as a sin offering to the Levitical priests of the family of Zadok, who come near to minister before me, declares the Sovereign Lord.


It will be the sacred portion of the land for the priests, who minister in the sanctuary and who draw near to minister before the Lord. It will be a place for their houses as well as a holy place for the sanctuary.


Moses then said to Aaron, ‘This is what the Lord spoke of when he said: ‘ “Among those who approach me I will be proved holy; in the sight of all the people I will be honoured.” ’ Aaron remained silent.


‘Bring Aaron and his sons, their garments, the anointing oil, the bull for the sin offering, the two rams and the basket containing bread made without yeast,


And you will again see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not.


They came as a group to oppose Moses and Aaron and said to them, ‘You have gone too far! The whole community is holy, every one of them, and the Lord is with them. Why then do you set yourselves above the Lord’s assembly?’


You, Korah, and all your followers are to do this: take censers


The staff belonging to the man I choose will sprout, and I will rid myself of this constant grumbling against you by the Israelites.’


The next day Moses entered the tent and saw that Aaron’s staff, which represented the tribe of Levi, had not only sprouted but had budded, blossomed and produced almonds.


You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit – fruit that will last – and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.


until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen.

But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.


Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: ‘The Lord knows those who are his,’ and, ‘Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.’


Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no-one will see the Lord.


and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father – to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.


I chose your ancestor out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up to my altar, to burn incense, and to wear an ephod in my presence. I also gave your ancestor’s family all the food offerings presented by the Israelites.
