3 They came as a group to oppose Moses and Aaron and said to them, ‘You have gone too far! The whole community is holy, every one of them, and the Lord is with them. Why then do you set yourselves above the Lord’s assembly?’

They have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and their sons, and have mingled the holy race with the peoples around them. And the leaders and officials have led the way in this unfaithfulness.’


In the camp they grew envious of Moses and of Aaron, who was consecrated to the Lord.


The chariots of God are tens of thousands and thousands of thousands; the Lord has come from Sinai into his sanctuary.


you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.” These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.’


And they will tell the inhabitants of this land about it. They have already heard that you, Lord, are with these people and that you, Lord, have been seen face to face, that your cloud stays over them, and that you go before them in a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.


It is against the Lord that you and all your followers have banded together. Who is Aaron that you should grumble against him?’


The next day the whole Israelite community grumbled against Moses and Aaron. ‘You have killed the Lord’s people,’ they said.


and tomorrow put burning coals and incense in them before the Lord. The man the Lord chooses will be the one who is holy. You Levites have gone too far!’


‘No misfortune is seen in Jacob, no misery observed in Israel. The Lord their God is with them; the shout of the King is among them.

Send away male and female alike; send them outside the camp so that they will not defile their camp, where I dwell among them.’


‘But our ancestors refused to obey him. Instead, they rejected him and in their hearts turned back to Egypt.


‘You stiff-necked people! Your hearts and ears are still uncircumcised. You are just like your ancestors: you always resist the Holy Spirit!
