When Reuben returned to the cistern and saw that Joseph was not there, he tore his clothes.


Then Jacob tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and mourned for his son many days.


At this, they tore their clothes. Then they all loaded their donkeys and returned to the city.


Then David said to Joab and all the people with him, ‘Tear your clothes and put on sackcloth and walk in mourning in front of Abner.’ King David himself walked behind the bier.


Then Eliakim son of Hilkiah the palace administrator, Shebna the secretary, and Joah son of Asaph the recorder went to Hezekiah, with their clothes torn, and told him what the field commander had said.


At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship


Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, ‘We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.’


from the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh;


from the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea son of Nun;


But because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it.


Not one of you will enter the land I swore with uplifted hand to make your home, except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.


Of the men who went to explore the land, only Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh survived.


Then Moses and Aaron fell face down in front of the whole Israelite assembly gathered there.
