For I am full of words, and the spirit within me compels me;


‘Shout it aloud, do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet. Declare to my people their rebellion and to the descendants of Jacob their sins.


The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,


to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn,


Today I have made you a fortified city, an iron pillar and a bronze wall to stand against the whole land – against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests and the people of the land.


But if I say, ‘I will not mention his word or speak anymore in his name,’ his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot.


But I am full of the wrath of the Lord, and I cannot hold it in. ‘Pour it out on the children in the street and on the young men gathered together; both husband and wife will be caught in it, and the old, those weighed down with years.


The visions of your prophets were false and worthless; they did not expose your sin to ward off your captivity. The prophecies they gave you were false and misleading.

‘Will you judge them? Will you judge them, son of man? Then confront them with the detestable practices of their ancestors


‘Son of man, will you judge her? Will you judge this city of bloodshed? Then confront her with all her detestable practices


The Lord said to me: ‘Son of man, will you judge Oholah and Oholibah? Then confront them with their detestable practices,


The Spirit then lifted me up and took me away, and I went in bitterness and in the anger of my spirit, with the strong hand of the Lord on me.


‘Son of man, describe the temple to the people of Israel, that they may be ashamed of their sins. Let them consider its perfection,


because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
