I rebuked the nobles of Judah and said to them, ‘What is this wicked thing you are doing – desecrating the Sabbath day?


‘Go, assemble the elders of Israel and say to them, “The Lord, the God of your fathers – the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob – appeared to me and said: I have watched over you and have seen what has been done to you in Egypt.


Acquitting the guilty and condemning the innocent – the Lord detests them both.


The wicked accept bribes in secret to pervert the course of justice.


It is not good to be partial to the wicked and so deprive the innocent of justice.


The violence of the wicked will drag them away, for they refuse to do what is right.


Your rulers are rebels, partners with thieves; they all love bribes and chase after gifts. They do not defend the cause of the fatherless; the widow’s case does not come before them.


and have grown fat and sleek. Their evil deeds have no limit; they do not seek justice. They do not promote the case of the fatherless; they do not defend the just cause of the poor.


They are to teach my people the difference between the holy and the common and show them how to distinguish between the unclean and the clean.


‘Hear this, you priests! Pay attention, you Israelites! Listen, royal house! This judgment is against you: you have been a snare at Mizpah, a net spread out on Tabor.


and if you reject my decrees and abhor my laws and fail to carry out all my commands and so violate my covenant,


There are those who turn justice into bitterness and cast righteousness to the ground.


The word of the Lord that came to Micah of Moresheth during the reigns of Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah – the vision he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.


Then I said, ‘Listen, you leaders of Jacob, you rulers of Israel. Should you not embrace justice,


‘Cursed is anyone who withholds justice from the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow.’ Then all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’
