The birds of the sky nest by the waters; they sing among the branches.


There the birds make their nests; the stork has its home in the junipers.


For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.


But as for me, I am poor and needy; may the Lord think of me. You are my help and my deliverer; you are my God, do not delay.


But as for me, afflicted and in pain – may your salvation, God, protect me.


Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young – a place near your altar, Lord Almighty, my King and my God.


‘In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence.


Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.


For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.


For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.’


He answered, ‘The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man.

If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.’


‘I tell you, whoever publicly acknowledges me before others, the Son of Man will also acknowledge before the angels of God.


I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?’


This will be a sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.’


So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.


and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.


Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.’

Jesus replied, ‘Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.’


He then added, ‘Very truly I tell you, you will see “heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on” the Son of Man.’


The crowd spoke up, ‘We have heard from the Law that the Messiah will remain for ever, so how can you say, “The Son of Man must be lifted up”? Who is this “Son of Man”?’


When he was gone, Jesus said, ‘Now the Son of Man is glorified and God is glorified in him.


No-one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven – the Son of Man.


Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,


Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.’


Jesus said to them, ‘Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.


Then what if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before!


‘Look,’ he said, ‘I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.’


For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.
