Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, ‘Abraham!’ ‘Here I am,’ he replied.


Benaiah son of Jehoiada answered the king, ‘Amen! May the Lord, the God of my lord the king, so declare it.


Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Then all the people said ‘Amen’ and ‘Praise the Lord.’


Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendour, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.


Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, ‘Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.’ And God granted his request.


The Lord is King for ever and ever; the nations will perish from his land.

‘Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.’


and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’


All you need to say is simply “Yes,” or “No”; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.


your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.


My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.


No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.


Otherwise when you are praising God in the Spirit, how can someone else, who is now put in the position of an enquirer, say ‘Amen’ to your thanksgiving, since they do not know what you are saying?


For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ. And so through him the ‘Amen’ is spoken by us to the glory of God.


who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,


He gave you manna to eat in the wilderness, something your ancestors had never known, to humble and test you so that in the end it might go well with you.


Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.


and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead – Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.


But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.


Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.


Some faced jeers and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment.


Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.


if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment.


The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.


I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.


After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude in heaven shouting: ‘Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God,

Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown.


“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death” or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.’


Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world to test the inhabitants of the earth.


‘To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation.


Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying: ‘To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honour and glory and power, for ever and ever!’
