Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said to himself, ‘My master was too easy on Naaman, this Aramean, by not accepting from him what he brought. As surely as the Lord lives, I will run after him and get something from him.’


Aware of this, Jesus said to them, ‘Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me.


When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. ‘Why this waste?’ they asked.


It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages and the money given to the poor.’ And they rebuked her harshly.


They have left the straight way and wandered off to follow the way of Balaam son of Bezer, who loved the wages of wickedness.
