Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.


‘Truly I tell you,’ Jesus answered, ‘this very night, before the cock crows, you will disown me three times.’


After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, ‘Surely you are one of them; your accent gives you away.’


Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: ‘Before the cock crows, you will disown me three times.’ And he went outside and wept bitterly.


All the people answered, ‘His blood is on us and on our children!’


‘Truly I tell you,’ Jesus answered, ‘today – yes, tonight – before the cock crows twice you yourself will disown me three times.’


But he denied it. ‘I don’t know or understand what you’re talking about,’ he said, and went out into the entrance.


Peter replied, ‘Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!’ Just as he was speaking, the cock crowed.


Again Peter denied it, and at that moment a cock began to crow.


For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my people, those of my own race,


If anyone does not love the Lord, let that person be cursed! Come, Lord!


Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.
