‘I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain.’


Let the king be enthralled by your beauty; honour him, for he is your lord.


Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.


‘The days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land.


Instead, they will serve the Lord their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them.


Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.


‘I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob; a sceptre will rise out of Israel. He will crush the foreheads of Moab, the skulls of all the people of Sheth.


When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him.


‘Say to Daughter Zion, “See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” ’


Meanwhile Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, ‘Are you the king of the Jews?’ ‘You have said so,’ Jesus replied.


‘Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ‘Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!’


Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.


So Pilate asked Jesus, ‘Are you the king of the Jews?’ ‘You have said so,’ Jesus replied.


There was a written notice above him, which read: This is the king of the Jews.


Then Nathanael declared, ‘Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel.’


They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, ‘Hosanna!’ ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ‘Blessed is the king of Israel!’


‘You are a king, then!’ said Pilate. Jesus answered, ‘You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.’


Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read: Jesus of Nazareth, the king of the Jews.


Thomas said to him, ‘My Lord and my God!’


that all may honour the Son just as they honour the Father. Whoever does not honour the Son does not honour the Father, who sent him.


Then the man said, ‘Lord, I believe,’ and he worshipped him.


And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, ‘Let all God’s angels worship him.’


‘I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.’
