Absalom lived for two years in Jerusalem without seeing the king’s face.

who despises a vile person but honours those who fear the Lord; who keeps an oath even when it hurts, and does not change their mind;


As for me, I shall be vindicated and shall see your face; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with seeing your likeness.


The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.


For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;


‘Awake, sword, against my shepherd, against the man who is close to me!’ declares the Lord Almighty. ‘Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered, and I will turn my hand against the little ones.


‘Who dares despise the day of small things, since the seven eyes of the Lord that range throughout the earth will rejoice when they see the chosen capstone in the hand of Zerubbabel?’


But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, ‘Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.


A bruised reed he will not break, and a smouldering wick he will not snuff out, till he has brought justice through to victory.


In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish.


‘If anyone causes one of these little ones – those who believe in me – to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung round their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.


When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. ‘Get up,’ he said, ‘take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.’

No-one, then, should treat him with contempt. Send him on his way in peace so that he may return to me. I am expecting him along with the brothers.


To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.


By the humility and gentleness of Christ, I appeal to you – I, Paul, who am ‘timid’ when face to face with you, but ‘bold’ towards you when away!


For some say, ‘His letters are weighty and forceful, but in person he is unimpressive and his speaking amounts to nothing.’


Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.


Therefore, anyone who rejects this instruction does not reject a human being but God, the very God who gives you his Holy Spirit.


Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.


Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?


For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made with human hands that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God’s presence.


And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them.
