When he told his father as well as his brothers, his father rebuked him and said, ‘What is this dream you had? Will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow down to the ground before you?’


‘Come now, let’s kill him and throw him into one of these cisterns and say that a ferocious animal devoured him. Then we’ll see what comes of his dreams.’


and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand. Then they knelt in front of him and mocked him. ‘Hail, king of the Jews!’ they said.


They put a purple robe on him, then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on him.


Again and again they struck him on the head with a staff and spat on him. Falling on their knees, they paid homage to him.


‘Are you the king of the Jews?’ asked Pilate. ‘You have said so,’ Jesus replied.


and went up to him again and again, saying, ‘Hail, king of the Jews!’ And they slapped him in the face.
