27 The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, ‘What is this? A new teaching – and with authority! He even gives orders to impure spirits and they obey him.’

The people were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled made well, the lame walking and the blind seeing. And they praised the God of Israel.


For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, “Go,” and he goes; and that one, “Come,” and he comes. I say to my servant, “Do this,” and he does it.’


And when the demon was driven out, the man who had been mute spoke. The crowd was amazed and said, ‘Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel.’


The impure spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek.


News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee.


The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, ‘Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God!


They were on their way up to Jerusalem, with Jesus leading the way, and the disciples were astonished, while those who followed were afraid. Again he took the Twelve aside and told them what was going to happen to him.


As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.


‘Don’t be alarmed,’ he said. ‘You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.


People were overwhelmed with amazement. ‘He has done everything well,’ they said. ‘He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.’


All the people were amazed and said to each other, ‘What words these are! With authority and power he gives orders to impure spirits and they come out!’


When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases,


Then they took him and brought him to a meeting of the Areopagus, where they said to him, ‘May we know what this new teaching is that you are presenting?
