‘I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,’ says the Lord Almighty.


These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: ‘Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans.


After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go.


But a Samaritan, as he travelled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him.


Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus travelled along the border between Samaria and Galilee.


He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him – and he was a Samaritan.


This is the one about whom it is written: ‘ “I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.”


Now he had to go through Samaria.


So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph.


The Samaritan woman said to him, ‘You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?’ (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.)


The Jews answered him, ‘Aren’t we right in saying that you are a Samaritan and demon-possessed?’
