Your servant will cross over the Jordan with the king for a short distance, but why should the king reward me in this way?


So they impaled Haman on the pole he had set up for Mordecai. Then the king’s fury subsided.


But when the plot came to the king’s attention, he issued written orders that the evil scheme Haman had devised against the Jews should come back on to his own head, and that he and his sons should be impaled on poles.


All his brothers and sisters and everyone who had known him before came and ate with him in his house. They comforted and consoled him over all the trouble the Lord had brought on him, and each one gave him a piece of silver and a gold ring.


Pay back into the laps of our neighbours seven times the contempt they have hurled at you, Lord.


eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,


The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, without painful toil for it.


Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.


The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor.


You show love to thousands but bring the punishment for the parents’ sins into the laps of their children after them. Great and mighty God, whose name is the Lord Almighty,


And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.’


For in the same way as you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.


‘Consider carefully what you hear,’ he continued. ‘With the measure you use, it will be measured to you – and even more.


Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.


Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.


because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
