Then the king said to the man of God, ‘Intercede with the Lord your God and pray for me that my hand may be restored.’ So the man of God interceded with the Lord, and the king’s hand was restored and became as it was before.


‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: “Because the Philistines acted in vengeance and took revenge with malice in their hearts, and with ancient hostility sought to destroy Judah,


this is what the Sovereign Lord says: in my burning zeal I have spoken against the rest of the nations, and against Edom, for with glee and with malice in their hearts they made my land their own possession so that they might plunder its pasture-land.”


But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,


Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.’ And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.


‘But to you who are listening I say: love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,


But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.


There was a plot afoot among both Gentiles and Jews, together with their leaders, to ill-treat them and stone them.


Then he fell on his knees and cried out, ‘Lord, do not hold this sin against them.’ When he had said this, he fell asleep.


Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.


We work hard with our own hands. When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it;


Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.


Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.
