The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, “Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.” But wisdom is proved right by her deeds.’


If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?


While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples.


As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. ‘Follow me,’ he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.


While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him.


Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering round to hear Jesus.


Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honour. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him.


If an unbeliever invites you to a meal and you want to go, eat whatever is put before you without raising questions of conscience.
