His winnowing fork is in his hand to clear his threshing-floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.’


But when John rebuked Herod the tetrarch because of his marriage to Herodias, his brother’s wife, and all the other evil things he had done,


(John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, ‘This is the one I spoke about when I said, “He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.” ’)


The next day John saw Jesus coming towards him and said, ‘Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!


I have seen and I testify that this is God’s Chosen One.’


With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, ‘Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.’


He travelled through that area, speaking many words of encouragement to the people, and finally arrived in Greece,


if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
