Those who trust in themselves are fools, but those who walk in wisdom are kept safe.


Lord, I know that people’s lives are not their own; it is not for them to direct their steps.


The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?


‘You don’t know what you are asking,’ Jesus said to them. ‘Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?’ ‘We can,’ they answered.


Peter declared, ‘Even if all fall away, I will not.’


But Peter insisted emphatically, ‘Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you.’ And all the others said the same.


Jesus answered, ‘I tell you, Peter, before the cock crows today, you will deny three times that you know me.’


But he denied it. ‘Woman, I don’t know him,’ he said.


Then Jesus answered, ‘Will you really lay down your life for me? Very truly I tell you, before the cock crows, you will disown me three times!


Then Paul answered, ‘Why are you weeping and breaking my heart? I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.’
