The poor are shunned even by their neighbours, but the rich have many friends.


One who oppresses the poor to increase his wealth and one who gives gifts to the rich – both come to poverty.


If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?


He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty.


Her neighbours and relatives heard that the Lord had shown her great mercy, and they shared her joy.


For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.’


But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind,


As a fair exchange – I speak as to my children – open wide your hearts also.
