The more the words, the less the meaning, and how does that profit anyone?


but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.


As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him.


But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, ‘Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!’


Then Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear.


‘Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap.


The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature.


Now a man named Lazarus was ill. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha.


Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.


Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honour. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him.


Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
