‘But days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will punish her idols, and throughout her land the wounded will groan.


They say to their mothers, ‘Where is bread and wine?’ as they faint like the wounded in the streets of the city, as their lives ebb away in their mothers’ arms.


I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon and put my sword in his hand, but I will break the arms of Pharaoh, and he will groan before him like a mortally wounded man.


A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side.


Jesus took the Twelve aside and told them, ‘We are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled.


After Jesus had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.
