6 Now the people of Judah approached Joshua at Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, ‘You know what the Lord said to Moses the man of God at Kadesh Barnea about you and me.

By the word of the Lord a man of God came from Judah to Bethel, as Jeroboam was standing by the altar to make an offering.


and rode after the man of God. He found him sitting under an oak tree and asked, ‘Are you the man of God who came from Judah?’ ‘I am,’ he replied.


‘About this time next year,’ Elisha said, ‘you will hold a son in your arms.’ ‘No, my lord!’ she objected. ‘Please, man of God, don’t mislead your servant!’


A man came from Baal Shalishah, bringing the man of God twenty loaves of barley bread baked from the first ripe corn, along with some ears of new corn. ‘Give it to the people to eat,’ Elisha said.


She said to her husband, ‘I know that this man who often comes our way is a holy man of God.


He stared at him with a fixed gaze until Hazael was embarrassed. Then the man of God began to weep.


Elisha went to Damascus, and Ben-Hadad king of Aram was ill. When the king was told, ‘The man of God has come all the way up here,’


The sons of Moses the man of God were counted as part of the tribe of Levi.


Lord, you have been our dwelling-place throughout all generations.


I brought them into the house of the Lord, into the room of the sons of Hanan son of Igdaliah the man of God. It was next to the room of the officials, which was over that of Maaseiah son of Shallum the door-keeper.


They came back to Moses and Aaron and the whole Israelite community at Kadesh in the Desert of Paran. There they reported to them and to the whole assembly and showed them the fruit of the land.


Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, ‘We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.’

But because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it.


Not one of you will enter the land I swore with uplifted hand to make your home, except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.


Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had explored the land, tore their clothes


For the Lord had told those Israelites they would surely die in the wilderness, and not one of them was left except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.


not one except Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua son of Nun, for they followed the Lord wholeheartedly.”


This is the blessing that Moses the man of God pronounced on the Israelites before his death.


Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face,


And Moses the servant of the Lord died there in Moab, as the Lord had said.


But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.


so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.


Then Joshua returned with all Israel to the camp at Gilgal.


So Hebron has belonged to Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite ever since, because he followed the Lord, the God of Israel, wholeheartedly.


Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb’s brother, took it; so Caleb gave his daughter Aksah to him in marriage.


On the tenth day of the first month the people went up from the Jordan and camped at Gilgal on the eastern border of Jericho.
