23 Be glad, people of Zion, rejoice in the Lord your God, for he has given you the autumn rains because he is faithful. He sends you abundant showers, both autumn and spring rains, as before.

then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of your servants, your people Israel. Teach them the right way to live, and send rain on the land you gave your people for an inheritance.


Yet if there is an angel at their side, a messenger, one out of a thousand, sent to tell them how to be upright,


He brings the clouds to punish people, or to water his earth and show his love.


May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the Lord.


He covers the sky with clouds; he supplies the earth with rain and makes grass grow on the hills.


Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; let the people of Zion be glad in their King.


The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.


Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart!


As they pass through the Valley of Baka, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools.


When a king’s face brightens, it means life; his favour is like a rain cloud in spring.

They do not say to themselves, “Let us fear the Lord our God, who gives autumn and spring rains in season, who assures us of the regular weeks of harvest.”


How the precious children of Zion, once worth their weight in gold, are now considered as pots of clay, the work of a potter’s hands!


I will make them and the places surrounding my hill a blessing. I will send down showers in season; there will be showers of blessing.


Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.’


I will send you rain in its season, and the ground will yield its crops and the trees their fruit.


‘I also withheld rain from you when the harvest was still three months away. I sent rain on one town, but withheld it from another. One field had rain; another had none and dried up.


Ask the Lord for rain in the springtime; it is the Lord who sends the thunderstorms. He gives showers of rain to all people, and plants of the field to everyone.


The Ephraimites will become like warriors, and their hearts will be glad as with wine. Their children will see it and be joyful; their hearts will rejoice in the Lord.


I will bend Judah as I bend my bow and fill it with Ephraim. I will rouse your sons, Zion, against your sons, Greece, and make you like a warrior’s sword.


Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.


Yet he has not left himself without testimony: he has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy.’


then I will send rain on your land in its season, both autumn and spring rains, so that you may gather in your corn, new wine and olive oil.


The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none.


Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants.


Further, my brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord! It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a safeguard for you.


For it is we who are the circumcision, we who serve God by his Spirit, who boast in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh –


Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: rejoice!
