He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honour him.


The ground is cracked because there is no rain in the land; the farmers are dismayed and cover their heads.


Because Israel’s immorality mattered so little to her, she defiled the land and committed adultery with stone and wood.


I will weep and wail for the mountains and take up a lament concerning the wilderness grasslands. They are desolate and untravelled, and the lowing of cattle is not heard. The birds have all fled and the animals are gone.


Should I not punish them for this?’ declares the Lord. ‘Should I not avenge myself on such a nation as this?’


Before them fire devours, behind them a flame blazes. Before them the land is like the garden of Eden, behind them, a desert waste – nothing escapes them.


He said: ‘The Lord roars from Zion and thunders from Jerusalem; the pastures of the shepherds dry up, and the top of Carmel withers.’


This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me: the Sovereign Lord was calling for judgment by fire; it dried up the great deep and devoured the land.


But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Saviour; my God will hear me.


Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.


And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?
