Moses answered, ‘What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, “The Lord did not appear to you”?’


But Moses said to the Lord, ‘If the Israelites will not listen to me, why would Pharaoh listen to me, since I speak with faltering lips?’


But Moses said to the Lord, ‘Since I speak with faltering lips, why would Pharaoh listen to me?’


‘Woe to me!’ I cried. ‘I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.’


But I said, ‘Alas, Sovereign Lord! The prophets keep telling them, “You will not see the sword or suffer famine. Indeed, I will give you lasting peace in this place.” ’


‘Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.


Then Jeremiah the prophet told all this to Zedekiah king of Judah, in Jerusalem,


Then I said, ‘Alas, Sovereign Lord! How completely you have deceived this people and Jerusalem by saying, “You will have peace,” when the sword is at our throats!’


Then I said, ‘Not so, Sovereign Lord! I have never defiled myself. From my youth until now I have never eaten anything found dead or torn by wild animals. No impure meat has ever entered my mouth.’


and said to him: ‘Run, tell that young man, “Jerusalem will be a city without walls because of the great number of people and animals in it.
