But those who ignored the word of the Lord left their slaves and livestock in the field.


Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord.


Because they consider all the offences they have committed and turn away from them, that person will surely live; they will not die.


The man said to me, ‘Son of man, look carefully and listen closely and pay attention to everything I am going to show you, for that is why you have been brought here. Tell the people of Israel everything you see.’


Then he continued, ‘Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them.


When the king heard this, he was greatly distressed; he was determined to rescue Daniel and made every effort until sunset to save him.


‘Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your panelled houses, while this house remains a ruin?’


You have planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.’


This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘Give careful thought to your ways.


‘When he came to his senses, he said, “How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death!


Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realise that Christ Jesus is in you – unless, of course, you fail the test?


Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else,
